  1. Advisors of department master’s students shall specialize in research fields that are consistent with those of their supervised dissertations and have one of the following qualifications:
  1. Advisors shall be above the level of Assistant Professors, with the qualifications approved by the Ministry of Education.
  2. Advisors shall be responsible for the academic guidance of their supervised graduate students, including course selection, reading, research, dissertation writing, and graduation threshold, and help them confirm their completion of the program.
  3. Master’s students are required to select their advisors before the end of the third semester. Advisors shall be nursing teachers employed by the department and shall be approved by the department chair.
  4. Each advisor shall supervise no more than 4 new master’s students each academic year, and no more than 10 master’s and doctoral students in total each academic year in principle, excluding master’s students who fail to complete their programs within 4 years and doctoral students who fail to complete their programs within 7 years. 
  5. Advisors are important to their supervised master’s students, and any changes shall be approved by the department chair.
  1. Advisors of department doctoral students shall specialize in the research fields that are consistent with those of their supervised dissertations and have one of the following qualifications:

  1. Advisors shall have one of the following qualifications:

1. Academician of Academia Sinica or former researcher of Academia Sinica;

2. Have received a doctoral degree for at least 3 years with Associate Professor qualifications (including) and have one of the following qualifications;

(1) Have published at least 1 article in SCI/SSCI journals as first or corresponding authors within 3 years;

(2) Have served as leader of research projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology within 2 years;

  1. Advisors shall be responsible for the academic guidance of their supervised graduate students, including course selection, reading, research, dissertation writing, and graduation threshold, and help them confirm their completion of the program.
  2. Doctoral students are required to select their advisors before the course selection in the first semester of the second academic year. Advisors shall be nursing teachers employed by the department and shall be approved by the department chair.
  3. Each advisor shall supervise no more than 2 new doctoral students each academic year, and no more than 10 master’s and doctoral students in total each academic year in principle, excluding master’s students who fail to complete their programs within 4 years and doctoral students who fail to complete their programs within 7 years.
  4. Advisors are important to their supervised doctoral students, and any changes shall be reviewed by a doctoral program review committee convened by the department chair. Prior to the beginning of the second academic year, students shall consult with their doctoral supervisors over their compulsory courses and submit written applications to the department chair with the consent of their intended advisors.

  1. During the period of postgraduate study, if advisors are unable to continue to supervise students due to sickness, resignation, retirement, or going abroad, an advisor change is not allowed in principle for graduate students who have submitted research proposals. However, the administrative affairs required in the process of dissertation completion shall be handled by supervisors. The supervisors mentioned herein refer to deputy directors for doctoral programs and leaders of teaching groups in which the master’s students are. However, graduate students who have not submitted research proposals are required to change their advisors and complete the administrative procedure of the “advisor change form” in accordance with the regulations of the Academic Affairs Office.
  2. The key points shall be approved by the school affairs meeting and reported to the department chair for approval before being announced and implemented. Any amendments thereafter must be handled in the same manner.
