►Department and Graduate Institute Introduction

In compliance with the national medicine and nursing education policy and the mid- to long-term planning of our university, the Department of Nursing offers programs for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students with an emphasis on “people-centered” care in response to the various health care needs of different life stages. The Department also develops innovative care technologies and health care models. It aims to train advanced practical nursing professionals who have a humanistic quality, a scientific attitude, and macroscopic views in various fields by integrating professional core values and qualities, including being caring, professional ethics, critical thinking, self-directed learning, knowledge of fundamental biomedical sciences, nursing skills, communications and cooperation, adherence to one’s duties, management and leadership, and research and global vision. This training seeks to cultivate medical and nursing professionals in accordance with the requirements of the job market under Taiwan’s health care system. 

►Educational Objectives

- Undergraduate level

The undergraduate program of the Graduate Institute aims to “develop practical nursing professionals who are willing to help, dedicated, and team oriented”; apart from providing courses on the Department’s mandatory subjects, it implements the Department’s curriculum to target the employment market by considering the characteristics and backgrounds of each student. Through the seamless integration of classroom teaching and clinical practices, the program strives to satisfy students’ individual career planning and promote their professional knowledge and skills for future development, so that the students are able to  

1. apply professional knowledge and skills and critical thinking when providing nursing care,

2. demonstrate love-centered care actions,

3. demonstrate knowledge and skills in communications and cooperation,

4. demonstrate attitudes and conduct in adherence to one’s duties,

5. demonstrate professional ethics in nursing practices, and

6. demonstrate lifelong learning actions.

-Master’s level

The educational objective of the master’s program at our graduate institute is to “develop advanced practical nursing professionals in different fields” and help students foster life-respecting and caring qualities and ethics to enhance their competence as advanced professional nurses. The curriculum not only emphasizes sustained support of the development of students’ qualities in professional ethics, being caring, professional self-directed and lifelong learning, global vision, communications and cooperation, and critical thinking but also reinforces the development of students’ abilities in conducting independent judgments, research and evidence applications, and management and leadership, so that the students are able to    

1. apply professional theories when providing advanced professional caring services,

2. demonstrate consulting and teaching knowledge and skills,

3. equip themselves with the knowledge and skills required to conduct effective communications, coordination, and cooperation within a health care team,

4. undertake health care issue-related research projects, and

5. demonstrate independent, self-directed lifelong learning.

-Doctoral level

The doctoral program of the Graduate Institute aims to “develop advanced nursing professionals in leading, teaching, and research roles.” Based on the advanced professional nursing competence and practical qualities of the students before enrollment, it offers a further sustained development of their competence in scientific research, leadership and management, and teaching. By emphasizing innovative research and combining theories and practices, it sets up a practical nursing model to promote a high-quality nursing major, so that the students are able to

1. advance their professional knowledge in nursing,

2. establish professional nursing practices or educational models,

3. conduct authentic scientific researches,

4. participate in international academic or professional activities,

5. analyze health policy-related issues and solutions, and

6. demonstrate leadership and decision-making actions.
